DataOps / Platform Engineer

About the Project & Role

We are supporting a major strategic initiative led by a global digital transformation leader to build a highly ambitious sovereign enterprise data platform—often described as a “French Palantir”-type platform.

As part of a highly selective core team of 10–15 key experts, you will work closely with leadership on some of the most critical Data & AI projects in Europe, spanning customs, national defense, and healthcare systems (including CNAM). These large-scale initiatives are valued at tens of millions of euros and will play a significant role in shaping the future of public-sector digital infrastructure.

Candidates can join either under a permanent employment contract (CDI) or through a B2B engagement model.

As a Senior DataOps / Platform Engineer, you will design, build, and operate the data platform as a product. Your mission will be to empower Data Engineers, Analysts, and Data Scientists by providing a secure, scalable, observable, and automated platform that enables them to develop and operate data products independently.

Key Responsibilities

Platform Engineering & Automation

• Build and maintain the data platform ecosystem, including environments, clusters, and managed or on-premises services.
• Automate infrastructure provisioning using Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
• Manage environment lifecycles across development, testing, and production.

CI/CD & Production Excellence

• Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines tailored to data workloads.
• Implement testing frameworks covering data quality, performance, and regression testing.
• Standardize deployment patterns and engineering best practices.

Observability & Reliability

• Establish comprehensive monitoring by collecting logs, metrics, and alerts.
• Manage platform incidents and maintain operational runbooks.
• Participate in on-call rotations and continuously improve operational resilience.
• Reduce Mean Time to Resolution (MTTR) through proactive improvements.

Security & Governance

• Implement Identity and Access Management (IAM), secrets management, and encryption strategies.
• Secure data access through fine-grained authorization mechanisms.
• Collaborate closely with security and data governance teams to ensure compliance and best practices.

Developer Enablement

• Create reusable templates, blueprints, and technical documentation.
• Support onboarding of data teams and provide Level 2/3 technical support.
• Continuously improve the Data Developer Experience (DX) across the platform.

Technical Requirements

Essential Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of experience in Operations, Cloud Engineering, Platform Engineering, or SRE roles, with a strong focus on data infrastructure.
• Strong Linux administration skills.
• Proficiency in Bash and Python scripting.
• Hands-on experience with Terraform or similar Infrastructure as Code tools.
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, or comparable solutions.
• Knowledge of observability tools and practices, including logging, metrics collection, and alerting.
• Solid understanding of networking, IAM, secrets management, and certificate handling.
• Experience operating data platforms built around:
  • Apache Spark
  • Kubernetes
  • Data orchestration platforms
  • Large-scale data storage architectures

Highly Valued Experience

• FinOps practices, including cloud and infrastructure cost optimization.
• Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) methodologies applied to data environments.
• Operating and scaling distributed streaming platforms and real-time data infrastructure.
