The cost of hiring a senior developer in Poland can be misleading when different figures are presented as if they meant the same thing. A gross employment salary, a B2B invoice, an employer’s payroll cost and an Employer of Record invoice are four different amounts.

The latest market-wide benchmark used in the RemoDevs 2026 Polish IT Market Report is:

  • PLN 21,573 gross per month for a senior role under an employment contract, known in Poland as an umowa o pracę or UoP;
  • PLN 24,780 per month as a net B2B invoice, excluding VAT.

These figures are useful starting points, but they are not directly comparable take-home salaries and neither should automatically be treated as the final cost of a hire.

Senior Developer Cost in Poland: 2026 Benchmark

Engagement modelPublished or calculated starting pointWhat the figure represents
Employment contract (UoP)PLN 21,573 gross per monthEmployee’s gross salary before employee-side deductions
Indicative employer payroll costApproximately PLN 25,991 per monthGross salary plus an illustrative 20.48% employer contribution burden
Direct B2B contractPLN 24,780 per monthContractor’s net invoice excluding VAT, not their take-home income
Employer of RecordNo universal market-wide amountEmployment cost plus the provider’s fee and applicable pass-through expenses
Staff augmentationNo universal market-wide amountA commercial service rate that may bundle compensation, administration and supplier margin

The salary figures come from Just Join IT’s 2026 salary report. Its methodology is based on more than 110,000 job advertisements published during 2025.

For each advertisement, the platform calculated the midpoint of the disclosed salary range and then used those values to establish medians by seniority. The results are advertised-market benchmarks, not guaranteed accepted offers.

The senior figure also covers IT categories more broadly. It should not be interpreted as a precise rate for every senior Java, React, Python, data, cloud or cybersecurity professional.

What Does a Senior Developer Cost on an Employment Contract?

The PLN 21,573 UoP benchmark is a gross salary, not the employer’s final payroll cost.

In addition to gross salary, the employer finances several Polish social security and labour-related contributions. Using the standard components described by the official Polish government business portal, together with an illustrative accident-insurance rate of 1.67%, the employer burden can be estimated at 20.48%.

The simplified calculation is:

PLN 21,573 × 120.48% = approximately PLN 25,991 per month

This is an indicative base payroll cost. The exact result can vary because of the employer’s accident-insurance rate, contribution limits, exemptions and the individual payroll setup.

If the employee participates in Poland’s Employee Capital Plan, the employer normally adds a basic contribution of 1.5% of remuneration. At the benchmark salary, that would add approximately PLN 324, bringing the example to around PLN 26,315 per month. The contribution rules are explained by the official PPK portal.

This estimate still excludes items such as:

  • bonuses or variable compensation;
  • private healthcare and other optional benefits;
  • equipment and software;
  • payroll administration;
  • an EOR service fee, if one is used;
  • recruitment fees;
  • travel or office-related costs.

For that reason, PLN 21,573 should be treated as a salary benchmark and approximately PLN 26,000 as an indicative starting point for employer payroll budgeting—not as a guaranteed all-in quote.

What Does a Senior Developer Cost on a B2B Contract?

Under the source methodology, the senior B2B benchmark is PLN 24,780 per month as a net invoice excluding VAT.

In Polish business terminology, “net invoice” means the amount before VAT. It does not mean that the contractor receives PLN 24,780 as personal take-home income. The contractor remains responsible for their own income tax, social insurance, accounting and other business expenses.

For a company contracting directly with an independent business, the invoice is the starting point for calculating cost. The final budget can also depend on:

  • VAT treatment;
  • whether the agreed monthly fee changes during periods without services;
  • equipment, travel or software arrangements;
  • currency and exchange-rate provisions;
  • legal and accounting support;
  • recruitment or sourcing fees.

A B2B invoice should therefore not be compared directly with an employee’s net salary. It should also not be assumed that every senior developer prefers B2B or that every role should be structured this way. The appropriate model depends on how the relationship will work in practice and should be reviewed with qualified Polish legal and tax advisers.

How an EOR Changes the Cost

An Employer of Record is an operational employment solution rather than another salary category.

The EOR becomes the formal employer and usually invoices the client for several components:

  • gross salary;
  • employer-funded payroll contributions;
  • required and optional benefits;
  • the EOR service fee;
  • other agreed pass-through expenses.

Consequently, the PLN 21,573 salary benchmark cannot be converted into a universal EOR price by adding a generic platform fee. Providers have different pricing structures, currencies, benefit packages and contractual terms.

Companies considering this model should request a written, line-item quote showing exactly what is included and how additional expenses are handled.

Recruitment Cost and Staff Augmentation Are Different Again

A direct-hire recruitment fee is separate from the developer’s ongoing compensation.

When working with an IT recruitment agency in Poland, the company hires or contracts the selected candidate directly. The recruitment fee is a separate, usually one-time cost calculated according to the signed proposal or agreement.

This guide does not apply a supposed universal market percentage because the fee basis, payment trigger, replacement terms and exclusions vary between providers and individual searches.

Under IT staff augmentation in Poland, the client instead pays a supplier’s commercial service invoice. That price may combine the professional’s compensation with contracting or payroll administration, account support, supplier overhead and margin.

A staff augmentation rate is therefore not the same thing as the B2B compensation published in a job advertisement.

What Can Move the Final Cost Above or Below the Median?

The market-wide senior median is useful for initial planning, but the realistic rate for a specific vacancy depends on the complete profile.

The most important factors include:

  • Technology and specialization: the relevant supply of candidates can differ significantly between common product-development stacks and narrower data, cloud, security or infrastructure requirements.
  • Scope of ownership: responsibility for architecture, technical strategy, mentoring or team leadership can change the compensation level.
  • Industry experience: regulated or technically complex domains may require knowledge that is harder to source.
  • Work arrangement: remote, hybrid and fully onsite roles access different candidate pools.
  • Communication requirements: business-level English, stakeholder exposure and working-hour overlap can affect the available market.
  • Contract structure: bonuses, notice terms, availability expectations and equipment arrangements influence the complete offer.
  • Currency: international companies should keep the Polish benchmark in PLN and apply a current exchange rate when preparing an internal budget.

A role-specific market map is more reliable than assigning one national rate to every person with “Senior Developer” in their title.

How to Build a Realistic Hiring Budget

For a direct employment hire, calculate:

Gross salary + employer payroll contributions + applicable PPK contributions + benefits and equipment + payroll or EOR costs + recruitment fee

For a direct B2B hire, calculate:

Monthly invoice + contract-specific expenses + tools or equipment + legal and administrative costs + recruitment fee

For staff augmentation, calculate:

Agreed service invoice + any expenses or one-off charges not included in the supplier’s rate

Before comparing the models, confirm that each proposal covers the same scope. A lower base figure is not necessarily a lower total cost if another quote includes payroll, equipment, administration or additional operational support.

How RemoDevs Approaches Cost and Candidate Screening

Before starting a search, RemoDevs agrees the role requirements, contract model, work arrangement, compensation range and interview stages with the client.

We then conduct targeted sourcing, recruiter screening and candidate presentation against those agreed requirements, while coordinating interviews, feedback and offer discussions.

Technical validation remains client-led unless a separate assessment scope has been agreed. Shortlist size and delivery time depend on the role, compensation, candidate availability and the client’s feedback speed, so they should be estimated after role calibration rather than presented as universal guarantees.

FAQ

How much does a senior developer earn in Poland in 2026?

In the selected market dataset, the median advertised monthly compensation for senior IT roles was PLN 21,573 gross under an employment contract and PLN 24,780 as a net B2B invoice excluding VAT. The figures come from advertisements published during 2025 and serve as planning benchmarks for 2026.

What is the employer cost of a PLN 21,573 gross salary?

Using an illustrative employer contribution burden of 20.48%, the base payroll cost is approximately PLN 25,991 per month. PPK participation, benefits, payroll administration, recruitment and equipment can increase the total.

Is B2B cheaper than an employment contract?

Not necessarily. The published B2B and UoP figures use different legal, tax and commercial conventions. Companies should compare the complete cost and operating model rather than the two headline amounts alone.

Is a B2B net invoice the developer’s take-home pay?

No. In this dataset, “net” means the invoice value excluding VAT. The contractor still settles their own taxes, social insurance and business expenses.

Does the salary benchmark include an EOR or recruitment fee?

No. EOR fees, staff augmentation margins and recruitment fees are separate commercial costs and should be taken from the relevant provider’s written proposal.

Conclusion

The most defensible 2026 starting point is not a single universal “all-in” figure.

The available data indicates a median of PLN 21,573 gross per month on UoP and PLN 24,780 as a B2B net invoice excluding VAT for senior roles. An illustrative UoP payroll calculation brings the employer’s base cost to approximately PLN 26,000 per month before PPK, benefits, equipment and external service fees.

Companies should use these figures to establish an initial budget and then validate the exact role, engagement model and supplier scope.
